In some cases they can work and it does get my attention as it shows variety.

Audience Feedback - Alexander

Article 1: Is war the answer?

Is the layout appropriate for the article? yes

Is the photography appropriate? What possible improvements could there be? The concept behind the photo is nice but I would recommend a change of scenery, did you take these pictures all in the same park?

Do you enjoy reading the article content? Yes very much

Is the writing style appropriate? Yes the snide tone to the text suits the biting comments to evident problems in the industry

What improvements do you think can be made to the written content? Not much the can be done its pretty spot on

Overall what would you rate this article? 8/10

Is the article professional and do you think it would be featured in a games magazine? The text is, though the visual aesthetics are rather oppressive white and red made it hard to read. I’d recommend a black background with white/ off-white text. That way it would lessen the retina burn I felt and have the red text stand out while fitting in with the new colour pallet.

Article 2: Pre-Order Nightmares

Do you approve of the layout to this article? yes

Are you a fan of alternate layouts in magazines? Yes it diversifies the magazine

Is the content appropriate/non-preachy? Points did come across a bit high and mighty but im not sure if this is a bad thing for isn’t the magazine supposed to be snarky and critical of mistakes made high up in the industry

Is the model appropriate? Yes although you could have used me as I had the same experience and it could bring in another face to take the burden of the other models.

Is the content mature and professional? yes

Overall what would you rate the article? 8/10

Do you think the article is professional and would feature in a games magazine? Again content wise yes but for aesthetic changes see above

Article 3- The Low Budget Review

Is this similar to other reviews?

Is the content thorough and fun to read?

Do you approve of the layout of the article?

Do you like the imagery of the article?

Are there any improvements to either image or content you think needed to be made?

What would you rate the article?
Do you think this article would feature in a games magazine?

Front Cover

Is the front cover professional looking? The text does look a little Microsoft word if you know what I mean, there are plenty of fonts on websites that don’t look so common place.

Is the header memorable and eye-catching? Yes amusing cover images stick in the readers mind and if the text is lacking humor a good image can act as a crutch (not that I’m saying the text wasn’t good) this is just example sake

Are the sell lines enticing and interesting? yes

Do you approve of the imagery used in the article? Yes well suited to the tone of the text

Should the imagery be changed? no

If you saw this would you buy it? On the aesthetics I would be put off, not that the content is poor far from it, humans judge things on appearance not content unfortunately and the presentation did not leave a good first impression. I would read this if this was on a web page as I would not expect much in regards to image placement, colour pallets and font as I would from an established industry like the printed news/ magazine

Audience Feedback Adam

Article 1: Is war the answer?

Is the layout appropriate for the article?
The layout is difficult to look at because of how it’s been presented. It looks cluttered; if it were presented a little neater it would be easier to read.

Is the photography appropriate? What possible improvements could there be?
Could be more professional and could include images of games such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc.

Do you enjoy reading the article content?
The article itself has good content and is great to read.

Is the writing style appropriate?
The article tries to identify with the target audience which is appropriate for this type of audience.

What improvements do you think can be made to the written content?
Try to identify with an even larger audience.

Overall what would you rate this article?
4/5 for the content, 2/5 for its presentation and style.

Is the article professional and do you think it would be featured in a games magazine?
If it were tidier and presented more neatly, definitely.

Article 2: Pre-Order Nightmares

Do you approve of the layout to this article?
More than the last article because its both tidier and includes a huge picture of Luke in the middle looking confused…as usual.

Are you a fan of alternate layouts in magazines?
Depends on the layout and how its presented.

Is the content appropriate/non-preachy?
Appropriate? Yes. Preachy? Not at all.

Is the model appropriate?
Professionally, not so much, however it does get the point across, especially as the model is holding a very good example of a bad game.

Is the content mature and professional?
Depends on the audience you’re aiming for. If it’s a teen audience then its perfect except it still could be tidier.

Overall what would you rate the article?
4/5 overall, 6/5 for how puzzled and confused Luke looks.

Do you think the article is professional and would feature in a games magazine?
Same as the previous article, except it is more likely to feature in it because of how its presented on the page/s.

Article 3- The Low Budget Review

Is this similar to other reviews?
Sort of.

Is the content thorough and fun to read?
Yeah.

Do you approve of the layout of the article?
Yes, except the images could be presented better and could include a few more as to not put the reader off the wall of text underneath them.

Do you like the imagery of the article?
Its full of humour so yes.

Are there any improvements to either image or content you think needed to be made?
Just the images need improving.

What would you rate the article?
4/5 for content as usual.

Do you think this article would feature in a games magazine?
It is presented more like an article of a newspaper but I can see how it would feature in a games magazine if it featured more images and less text.

Front Cover

Is the front cover professional looking?
Not really, but that’s because of the image.

Is the header memorable and eye-catching?
The header is memorable but it isn’t as eye catchy as the title because of the image and title distract the readers eyes.

Are the sell lines enticing and interesting?
Sort of but they could always be catchier.

Do you approve of the imagery used in the cover?
The cover Not really professional or suitable for the article. However, if the cover was designed to be full of humour and not really that professional then it fits fine.

Should the imagery be changed?
In order for it be more professional, yes, however if its supposed to be funny then its fine.

If you saw this would you buy it?
If it was just this article, probably not but if it were to be featured in a game magazine, totally!
